Here I am going to explain you the term 'Portacabins' or 'Portable cabins' or 'Portal office' which means 'Prefabricated Structures'.
In my previous post I told you the story of how Shipping containers were turned in to Livable structure a habitat or a type of Portacabin.
Why Portacabin?
Usually, these structures are majorly used by construction companies and Infrastructure Development companies.
As they are developing landscapes, Roads, Highways, Dams, Bridges, Townships, Buildings and now a days Metro train Projects.
These companies are working at remote locations Nationwide & worldwide These structures are Prefabricated in factories and are supplied to their worksite.
Some times these location have no shelter for workers, labourers, site engineers in this situation these structures are bare necessity to start the projects.
From a Security Guard Hut to Labour colony from Site office for enginneers to Head office for developers on project site. These Portacabin structures come handy and are widely used by these Infrastructure developers building the nations.
While talking of Portacabin or Modular buildings, what a livable building consist of is sturdy boundary walls with good ventilation windows, safety of lockable doors and a sustainable weatherproof roof.

Shipping container building is a form of architecture using steel containers as structural element, because of their inherent strength.
Using shipping containers as architectural building blocks in India is a new concept derived from the western world. Few decades ago, First world countries were burdened with pile and pile of shipping containers in the yards and they were going nowhere.
Lying down there turning in to rubble of corroded junk. Disposing them became very costly and hazardous for environment.

It's unknown but someone sometime on a rainy day came up with the idea of turning that shipping steel container into some kind of shelter. Well if it could be a shelter then why can't it have a window or two. (Click for Video)
Now the Shipping Container started taking shape of a house but still there was a big problem it is still a steel container and steel is a very good conductor of heat, cold and electricity. So trying to live in it or making a construction site office container was still not a good idea.
Here came the need of making the steel Shipping container weatherproof and shockproof. Different insulation materials were used to solve the issue and different sidings were used to cover the applied insulation as plywood, laminates, PVC panels etc. and voila the whole steel container was converted in to a beautiful container house.
Gradually improvising, different amenities were added into the shipping container home turning them into all new modern homes.
Student hostels, classroom buildings were made adjoining many containers. This way all the waste lying shipping containers were utilised turning them in to Green environment friendly buildings.
